For more than three years I worked and I volunteered for Cancer foundations and societies in Canada. From my personal experience, I met with different cancer patients of different types and ages. They were really strong and gave me a push to continue my research on the nutrition related to the anti-cancer treatment. Many of them believed that a healthier ‘Diet´ is a part of their treatment and it would be faster for healing. Many people turned vegan in the belief of that as a holistic part one. Thanks God, It was a great success for that they accepted to change their diet and lifestyle to boost their health now and to address their cancer nutrition deficiencies so they won the battle with cancer with great WOW. But what is a “healthy diet” for cancer patients?
Basics of Cancer Diet:
The nutritional value, as well as the healing power of a specific food, is based on its amount of energy release which stimulate the self-healing mechanism of the body. In-fact the cancer patient who is under chemotherapy, it’s more important than ever to make sure that is getting the nutrition, vitamins, and minerals enough to stay strong.
I believe that raw foods (fruits and vegetables) have the highest energy values. If that are eaten wholly for the first months, no matter how long depends on the severity of the disease, evidence soon will be noticed on the patient and its general body power. A high intake of fruits with scientific studies indicating that the consumption of 400 grams of fruit daily reduces the chance of cancer by 50%. Fruits such as mango, avocado, raspberry, papaya, kiwi, apricot, cherry and pineapple, raw vegetables, nuts and seeds are included in the healthy diet as well as goat milk and its products and honey.
On the other hand, vitamin K containing food is very important during the treatment but it should be used carefully. For example using broccoli, lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, etc. should be not more than 30% of the daily diet, while garlic should be avoided and onion should be taken in moderation.
Many studies showed that water played very important role in the cancer diet. It was found that the detoxification functions in the body including breathing, sweating, urinating and defecating require water. However, the body is resourceful at adapting. When dehydrated, it will safely store toxins in various places in the body, such as in fatty tissue, in arterial deposits or in the joints. But with cancer patients this mechanism is really tough because of the treatments side effect and the weakness of the body itself. That’s why water is exclusively is needed to wash up any toxins passed or earlier remained in the blood or in the body tissues.
Maintaining Strength and Energy:
When it comes to fighting cancer fatigue and boosting strength with good cancer nutrition it’s important to pay attention to protein. Protein makes healing faster. Fish and non-hormon treated meats are great sources of protein. Some people have trouble tolerating them during cancer treatment, that’s why we recommend easy-to-digest protein foods such as: Eggs, goat milk, cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Beans, legums, nuts including organic peanut butter or almond butter also are great, but all needs more drinking water to get the maximum benefit.
Fiber diet also is needed in the plan meals. But if you have certain medical problems, you may be asked to reduce the amount of fiber in the diet in order to rest the bowels. A low-fiber diet may be suggested if happen diarrhea, cramping, trouble digesting food, or after some types of surgery. Keep in mind that low fiber foods cause fewer bowel movements and smaller stools. Extra fluids may be required to avoid constipation. The most important fluid is “water” that needed to the mechanics of the body especially clearence of the kidneys and easier bowel movement.
In fact, all the cells and organs that make up the entire anatomy and physiology of the body are depending on water for their functioning. Water serves as a lubricant, the base for saliva, the fluids that surround the joints, regulates the body temperature, as the cooling and heating is distributed through perspiration, helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract and thereby eliminating waste and regulates the metabolism. In addition to the daily maintenance of our bodies, water also plays a key role in the prevention of disease i.e. detox key. Drinking eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can potentially even reduce the risk of breast cancer.
When water is deficient, toxins from food (chemicals, additives, colors, preservatives, etc.) build up in the fluid that surrounds the cells, preventing nutrients from getting into the cell causing its death, i.e. cancer. In fact, many studies have proven that the diet i.e. food were eaten, was the main reason for cancer. Thus if you want to cure your cancer, you must correct the diet and style of living to create a strong defender body.
Finally, it’s very important to know that not all cancer diet are the same. Most of the patients are craving the food they are allergic to, that’s make it worse to change or get rid of it. But it’s a key for every single patient to know it’s bad food to avoid during his following the healthy new diet.
